Backend updates

In this blog post we will talk about the latest updates on the backend infrastructure, firewall and the iOS app 📲.
Let's start with the backend: Yesterday was an important day since we updated the operating system in our servers including kernel, services and O.S. components. These updates aren't really visible for users but they guarantee the health and security of the infrastructure.

Firewall 🔥

We have a custom-designed firewall running in our VPN servers that fuel our Web Filter feature, allowing us to block trackers and threats, as well as sending alerts. That's why we recently updated the app to include the 'More' tab in which users get to read about the latest updates regarding the firewall. We added 59 new trackers (listed inside the app) yesterday, in the 20190722 firewall revision.

Cat and mouse game

Advertising companies that make use of web trackers play a 🐱 and 🐭 game with those trying to protect user's privacy (including us). They create new servers, endpoints, hostnames and APIs, trying to evade existing protections. That's why we designed, along with the firewall, a watchlist feature where we monitor these companies domains to identify when they make changes. This feature enables us to keep our firewall up to date and our users always protected.

Spod VPN & Web Filter.app

Version 1.2.1 of the app was released on the AppStore during the weekend and version 1.2.2 was submitted yesterday, which should be available to download soon. Below is a change log regarding these updates:

As you can see, the latest updates were focused on housekeeping instead of new features, which is necessary to keep a healthy service. Do you have a request or suggestion for the next update? Leave a comment below ⬇ to let us know.
